Our Story
We first crossed paths in Whākatu/Nelson and soon realised that we had many shared interests, including a love of saunas! It was one particular sauna session in Tākaka where the spark of an idea was lit - a conversation about the beauty and simplicity of a sauna, wellbeing and the power of bringing community together - which ignited something bigger.
Soon we both moved to Ōtautahi/Christchurch, and chose to pursue a shared dream - starting our very own mobile sauna. We built this sauna ourselves with craftsmanship and care - and from the outset our aim has been to create an experience grounded in local connection, community and collaboration.
We hope that every detail of Ocean Ember Sauna reflects this ethos. The exterior cladding comes from a single tree in Loburn, milled locally with pride. The sauna rocks have been fossicked from around Sumner, we’ve used NZ-sourced wool for wall insulation, and the fireplace is unique and locally made - producing a warm and radiant heat.
This is a sauna built to honour place, people and the joy of slowing down together. We hope you enjoy it!
